How do I create a Google Local Services Ad?
The process is of setting your business up on Google Local Services Ads is easy.
To become Google Guaranteed (we cover this in this article…), simply go to The Official Google Local Services Ads website and sign up. It is much like populating your Google My Business. There is really nothing to it. The biggest difference is that a business representative will need to pass a background check and depending on your business types, so may some of the company’s employees.
You can also sign up for the free version. Your business will not be ‘Google Guaranteed’ on the free version and will most likely be displayed less often and less prominently as you may expect.
How much does Google Local Services Ads cost?
It is free to sign up and there is a free and paid version. As of early 2021, the cost per click ranges from $6-$30 on the paid version. The free version is truly free.
The cost per click or call when you are on the paid version of Google Local Services Ads varies by business category and geographic location. More competitive and/or profitable business categories will come with a higher cost per click as expected. The same goes for geographic areas with a higher cost of living; expect to pay a higher cost per click in these markets.

If your business is on the paid version of Google Local Services Ads, your listing will contain the ‘Google Guaranteed’ badge as shown.
This obviously instills trust in the Google searcher, but it also gets you priority placement in the list of local businesses displayed.
Google will always show 3 businesses in the Local Services Ads section of the SERPs which is conveniently located at the very top of the search results! So, if only 2 businesses are ‘Google Guaranteed,’ Google will show 1 business on the free version to complete the 3 business requirements. This is why you should sign up for the free version right now if you have not already and are eligible!
If 3 businesses haven’t signed up for a given category in a given market, Local Services Ads will be left out of the search results.
Google Local Service Ads Background Check
Yes. The business owner or possibly another business representative will need to pass a background check and possibly some of the business’ employees depending on the types of services you offer and how you interact with your customers.
Don’t let this stop you from signing up! It is not required on the free version, and the background check is performed at no cost to you.
Google Local Services Ads Phone Calls
Primarily people will be clicking to call your business if you are running Google Local Services Ads.
Google will be tracking and recording these calls! Why?
It’s actually a good thing.
The first thing to note is that you will hear a brief message letting you know the call is a call from the Local Services Ad you are running.
When you answer, the call is recorded. The reason is that you can quickly and easily dispute bogus calls so you are not charged! If the person calling was a bot, or simply not in your service area, or was requesting a service you clearly don’t offer, these are all valid reasons to not be charged. You simply need to notify Google and that’s it.
